The Long Dark Racism of the Republican Party

During yesterday’s confirmation hearings of Elena Kagan, it was unsurprising to see the GOP come out in full force. After all, she is a liberal, though mostly a centrist, and the GOP wants to do everything it can to discredit her, even knowing full well that she will be confirmed regardless.

But did they attack her on her merits? No. No such different and shocking news as that to report. Instead, they attacked Thurgood Marshall.

Justice Marshall, he of Brown vs. Board of Education fame. The first Black American in history to ever sit on the highest judicial body of our entire nation.

That Thurgood Marshall. The Justice Marshall who ended Jim Crow Laws in America before he even became a Supreme Court Justice.

Jon Kyl perhaps best summed up the Republican point of view: “Justice Marshall’s judicial philosophy, is not what I would consider to be mainstream.” Naturally, Jon Kyl must be ignorant of lesson plans in probably every high school in America which teach the decision of Brown vs. Board of Education. I would call that “mainstream”, as well as the notion that separation between “Coloreds” and “Whites” is not exactly a good thing.

Or maybe I’m wrong. It appears that I might very well be, because it appears that the mainstream of the conservative movement has now been out in full force with weapons which we thought of as relics of the past.

Setting aside the first year of President Barak Obama’s administration, let us instead just focus on the last few weeks. Starting with Health Care a scant few months ago, we had a gaggle of “GOP Activists” heckling Black Congressmen with public shouts of “Nigger!” as they walked out into the street, followed by shouts of “Faggot!” for Rep. Barney Frank.

We’ve had one of the Tea Party leaders, Dale Robertson, caught in a picture with a sign with the word “Niggar” in plain public view, talking about Obama. Evidently, Mr. Robertson may not have heard of Brown vs. Board of Education as can be attested to by his feeble attempts at spelling.

We’ve had the Arizona State Legislature, Republican controlled with a Republican Governor, passing a law which amounts to asking people with brown skin for evidence that they were born in the United States.

We’ve had the John Birch Society sponsoring the Conservative Political Action Commitee which was once ostracized for being a nutjob conspiracy-laden and racist organization.

We’ve had the Texas Board of Education, currently laboring away to re-write our children’s history books, trying to remove Justice Thurgood Marshall from lesson plans (as well as downplaying or removing Thomas Jefferson’s role as a follower of the Enlightenment in favor of Calvin). They also removed any mention of “minority soldiers” who earned Congressional medals for their valor.

Not feeling the need for the GOP to stop there, the Governor of Virginia went on record and said that he didn’t think that the issue of slavery to be a significant aspect of the Civil War. And then not to be outdone by that little upstart, the Governor of Mississippi, the former Chairman of the RNC, actually had this to expound upon the issue of slavery: “To me it’s a sort of feeling that it’s just a nit. That it is not significant. It’s trying to make a big deal out of something that doesn’t matter for diddly.

Then we had the wonderful moment in which Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul, the big Tea Party candidate, duking it out with Rachel Maddow on his take on how the 1964 Civil Rights laws went too far. His view: If somebody wants to refuse service to anyone, for whatever reason, including the color of their skin, that’s their right.

Naturally, a firestorm errupted from some “Mainstream Americans” about this and he reluctantly appeared to back away from that statment. But that wouldn’t be Jon Kyl’s “Mainstream America” because many in his party, or political bloggers and commenters from that aisle, were busy trying to defend Rand Paul’s statement so loudly that they didn’t actually hear Mr. Paul “retracting” for yet another day or so after the fact.

Next, we had the massive whopper of Glenn Beck telling America that race relations were doing just dandy in George Washington’s time (completely ignorant of the fact, it would appear, that President Washington himself owned slaves). Then, having to actually rub salt into the wounds, he went on to add that everything would have been fine and peachy if the Civil War hadn’t come up and bit our wonderfully insouciant progressive outlook of the time in the posterior.

It doesn’t end there, of course. Lately, we’ve had former Senator Rick Santorum talking about how Obama really isn’t part of the “American Experience”. One might wonder why. Should he “go back to Kenya”, Mr. Santorum?

These are just a handful of examples from the vast expanse of the last several months, of course. But even if they were not interspersed with hundreds of other examples, one would only be able to rationally conclude that Race is a real problem for the Republican Party.

Thee biggest flaw according to these backwards philosophers, it would appear, would be that the United States has progressed far beyond 1860. Naturally, anyone who doesn’t appear to agree can never be called a “Conservative” and is to be shunned. One must ascribe to this “new” zeitgeist that the earth is only six thousand years old, that there is no global warming whatsoever, that science is out to destroy their way of life (and perhaps it is at this point), and that the Civil War was a great injustice towards humanity, to say nothing of the erradication of Jim Crow and the eventual election of a Black President.

Bear in mind that these examples demonstrate the vast swathe of current Republican and Conservative “thinking”. We are not talking about just a few lone wolves at a protest who show up because they want to have their insane theories on display; rather, we are talking about the top tier of the politicians and pundits who sway their masses with their ideology.

These leaders aren’t playing with fire to appease the masses any longer, they are setting the fire with flaming torches to disused rags that they have dug up from the past to try to gain power in the most horrific way.

What amazes me is that some people do not appear to be swayed by any amount of argument on behalf of this subject. They willingly go blind into the chanting masses and repeat after themselves that they are not part of a racist movement. But the fact is that they are. Today, for a person to be a Republican means for them to be part of an inherently Racist movement. A movement which would not only bar scientific knowledge from the classroom, but also now any advances in our post-slavery and separatist history. It means covering your ears, closing your eyes, and chanting “I’m not listening” to whatever evidence is presented to you.

Well, whatever your delusion, it is fairly easy for an impartial judge to see the Republican Party for what it is today: a racist, backwards, mysoginistic movement which wants to take us back to the pre-Civil War era. Their Golden Era appears to be one before Evolution, before Germ Theory, before legal abortions, before any advances in science and technology, and most certainly before any “Colored” person was considered to be equal under the law.

That is where the Republican and Conservative movement stands today. And, I’m sorry to say, I’m not buying any excuses. If you march with the “Tea Party” who want to erase progress, then you are endorsing their platform.

On the subject of platforms, one last statement: The Tea Party is National Socialism. It is a “grass roots” movement which has been inundated with flag-waving separatism by the “common man” who is rejecting the “elite” politician for a Utopian ideal from the past which never was. And it is being used by skillful politicians who talk up a great deal about race and a “new science” which rejects “junk science” for what they consider to be “science” in their favor. It wants to chase away scientists it considers to be a threat. It talks consistently about how elites have destroyed what they consider to be “real American values” and rejects anything outside of their inner circle as “unamerican”. It uses the terms which agrees with the idea of “God With Us” emblazoned on the sleeves of many of its participants. It talks about guns and revolution, and the legitimacy of certain Americans to call themselves American. It favors conspiracy theories about dark “cabals” controlling the world banks and government. And all done under an economic depression where the dollar has been devalued and frustrated people are easily manipulated.

If that description doesn’t agitate and disturb you in a very explicit way, then you really have no business marching, or making any political commentary until it does. Because that is where our country is currently headed, and that is what the Republicans have now pandered to and made “Mainstream”.

Time for the rest of us to wake up.

The Science of God

Yesterday, May 20th 2010, was “Everyone Draw Muhammed Day” on Facebook. There have been resounding screams of anguish and offense for days about it. Indeed, the cartoon controversy never really went away, did it? Reams of Muslims online are expressing their anger, coupled with reams of left and right-minded Christians whom also are taking offense at this “provocative action”.

How apropos then that yesterday was also the day when it was announced that for the first time in history, scientists have created life. Artificial life.

You see, there is a reason why Muslims believe that they should not draw pictures of “the prophet”. The reason is they believe that only god (no capitalization intended) can truly create life. And in bronze-aged Arabia, Islam kept the pagan belief shared by so many other societies that to draw a picture of a person was to emulate god. This is why it is one of the highest insults in Islam to draw Mohammed. It is, in essence, wholly sacrilegious.

For the entire history of humanity, only “god” was credited with creating life from scratch. And now, we have done it too. For thousands of years, it was believed that mankind would never achieve the power of that act. And today, as when Galileo Galilei offended thousands of years of dogmatic thought with his telescope, we have pushed back religion even further from the truth than it ever has been before.

Today, we have become “god”.

Those howls and screams you hear from the religiously inclined are only yet to begin with this feat. They have not yet had time to react to this greatest blasphemy of all, but they eventually will. They will realize in time that their precious hold on one of the mysteries – life itself – has slipped out of their grasp while no one was watching.

I find it satisfying to know this and to live in an age when Science (capital S intended) is beginning to unravel all the mysteries of the universe which, hitherto, only were claimed to be answered in books written during ancient times. Times when people didn’t understand anything around them. They had no inkling of the micro universe, or the macro; they had no idea about the wonders of the solar system and the stars; they could only guess at what lay “above” us outside of the sky. They were little children, usually dying at the age of our teenagers, with no skills or knowledge upon which to build.

Religious people claim that these children knew more than we; that we should emulate the barbaric world in which they lived and died. The holy-minded believe that these people could tell us everything we should know about how the universe came to be and functions. And yet, not a single thing they have ever claimed has ever been true.

The world is not flat, demons do not cause sickness, touching and believing does not heal, life was not created in seven days, the gods do not reside on any mountaintop, nor do they control the seas or the trembling earth. And now, not only “god” can create life from inert matter.

When you come right down to it, the religious out there know nothing at all from their books. All they can point to are a few passages about treating others in a kind way, or getting inspiration from the world around you – any of which was also determined by godless philosophers in Greece and other atheists or, at best, deists in history. These “golden rules” are nothing but the built-in humanity which we all share and prove not an iota of the truth about their sacred texts.

No, the holy-minded who scream about Mohammed, Jesus, Moses, and maybe even Krisna, are pushed back yet again into an empty void of ignorance by every single feat or discovery of science. The list of “but we can’t explain yet….” is being shortened every single day by researchers who take those religious claims to task – whether they are religious themselves or not. Every single day, religion becomes more ephemeral and ethereal as we disprove and chip away claim after claim which they have gripped with a concrete grip for thousands of years.

And every single time they kick and scream even more loudly, it resounds even more hollow in the ever expanding universe which doesn’t care one whit for their piety or holy orders.

If I was religious today, and I saw that we can finally create DNA – the basis of life itself on this planet – I would despair. I would despair because everything I had been told is untrue, and everything I believe about how the universe works is false. I would probably try to work it out for myself and try to understand why mankind has such power that only “god” was supposed to possess. And then I would look around me and realize that every single holy text from the dark ages of mankind were just stories written in a brutal and ignorant age when reason wasn’t even a concept.

But I’m a rational girl. I do believe in beauty and love, and I do believe in the ephemeral spirit of being in a grand and universal sense. But I never believed in invisible dragons in the sky waiting for armageddon to swallow up the world. If spirituality is love of the universe and science, then I supposed I will be limited by our vocabulary to call it that. It is not religion.

Religion is the hijacking of those dreams which only science can one day deliver unto us.

Religion is nothing but the fantastical claims and beliefs of people who never knew better and would see us today as Gods. Were any of us to walk into a tent in Arabia, or in front of Jesus or Moses in the desert during their lives, we would have been worshiped for our abilities and knowledge that we acquire in grade school. My smartphone that I speak into every day would have been beyond the wild and miraculous imaginings of any nomad falling to his knees and praying in “holy direction”.

And that knowledge and phone was never acquired by those holy texts, nor was it instructed by “holy men”. It was discovered and created by Science.

Today, Science stands equally amongst one of the greatest “claims” of the religious. And, while they still claim that it is one of the “mysteries” to which only they have the keys, we actually have evidence to explain how it is done.

Yes, that satisfies me very, very, much.

The Ghost of Atheism Future…

There was an article about Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens today in The Times Online. It referred to them wanting to have the pope (no caps on purpose) arrested when he lands in Britain later this year.

I thought it was very funny because they used a very “dark” and “devilish” picture of Professor Dawkins. The picture definitely has a sense of foreboding evil waiting for the pope. While some may have found this to be offensive to Professor Dawkins, I found it to be delightfully funny and complimentary to him. After all, it is they who believe in “the devil”, and not we Atheists.

I have therefore made up a little proof of concept of what I imagine must float before the pope’s eyes in his dreams every night after seeing that picture. I hope he does. I hope he breaks out in a cold sweat and screams out for mercy in his twisted silken bedsheets as they cling to his corrupted body.

Please note, I made it up really quickly in Photoshop while at work. I probably could have done a better job, but some of us work for a living. =)

The Column System

This is mostly for guys in SL, but also applies to RL experiences. I’m putting this up to help some guys who appear to need a little extra information in life on how to handle girls like me.

The Column System

An Introductory Course on Girl-Boy Relations

by Summer Seale.

A lot of people want to fuck me in SL and RL. However, since I’m writing this on Summer’s blog, and Summer is somebody in SL, I hope that SL boys will read this and apply this information wisely.

When I walk into a place in SL, I usually get inundated with IMs within seconds of my rezzing.

Most of them are from guys, yes.

They generally tend to follow the usual pattern:

“hey baby u so hot”.

“u want fuck?”

“u want sexy w me girl?”

“hello beauty” – denotes non-English speaker with 99.99999990651% accuracy instantly.

At this point, I usually put them down very quietly and firmly. Most of the time, this involves extreme humiliation and excoriation dished out towards them from yours truly. I sort of enjoy my witty retorts. Some examples:

[05:54]  XXXX XXXX: hi
[05:54]  Summer Seale: hi
[05:55]  XXXX XXXX: will u make sex?
[05:55]  Summer Seale: that’s going in my profile

or…

[8:08]  Idiot1: hi

[8:08]  Idiot1: you re sexy

[8:08]  Idiot1: you like take rl plesure here

[8:09]  Summer Seale: back off, man….i’m a scientist.

or…

[5:57]  Idiot2: Hello sexy girl

[5:57]  Idiot2: i like your body

[5:57]  Summer Seale: thanks, i made it. you didn’t make yours, so i’m not impressed with you… =)

or…

[18:49]  Idiot3: please love me

[18:49]  Summer Seale: you didn’t get enough of that from your mother?

[18:50]  Idiot3: I had no sex w my mother

[18:51]  Summer Seale: and you want something from me your mother wouldn’t even give you? =)

or…

[4:18]  Another Idiot: baby, you are stunning!

[4:19]  Summer Seale: i know.

or…

[4:31]  Moron: Hey sexy

[4:32]  Summer Seale: you can do better than that can’t you?

[4:32]  Moron n: I can do better

[4:32]  Summer Seale: so try again

[4:33]  Moron: Hello Princess

[4:33]  Summer Seale: better

or…

[4:44]  Clueless: come with me baby

[4:45]  Summer Seale: why?

or…

[1:49]  Lost Guy: Hello Baby I know a better place

[1:49]  Summer Seale: i own a better place.

[1:50]  Summer Seale: but i’m not going to fuck you, no matter which place we go to. =)

or…

[2:34]  Humiliated Guy1: you are hot baby

[2:35]  Summer Seale: i know

[2:35]  Humiliated Guy1: lets fuck

[2:35]  Summer Seale: why?

[2:36]  Humiliated Guy1: i am horney

[2:36]  Summer Seale: well, i bet your hand is hornier than i am.

or…

[2:58]  Humiliated Guy2: i wonna fuck you

[2:59]  Summer Seale: you’re an idiot.

or…

[21:02]  Rebuffed Guy1: hello there …

[21:02]  Summer Seale: lol like you have a chance. =)

(Names changed to protect the not-so-innocent)

There are just a few choice selections amongst the thousands that I’ve had in the last three and a half years of being in SL. They are but a small drop in the bucket compared to the ones I’ve had in RL. It is easy to see the extremely practiced and effortless way that I respond to all of these…”men”. This should give you a clue as to the amount of practice I’ve had in RL and SL since years, and years, and years.

Now, that isn’t to say that some of them aren’t nice guys. Some of them probably are nice guys. In fact, after rebuffing some guys, they sometimes (rarely) come back and try to start again. At this point, I put them in the “human” category, which I also include new guys who say hello to me in a nice way their very first time.

I won’t post more tidbits at this point; a quick summary shall suffice:

They say hello (and try again for some). I know what they generally want. I confront them with this after a few cute little words and some slight banter, to which they act shocked and surprised! telling me, no less, that all they want to be is friends.

Friends.

That’s what they really want, you see. They insist that it is true. They like me because I am so awesomely cool at my replies and comebacks. They just love to hang out with a witty girl like me.

Friends, they say. Friends.

Now we’re getting to the reason for this entire introductory course.

There are three columns into which a girl like me puts her “Friends”.

Column A: I’ll fuck you often and hard, anytime I get the chance.

Column B: You’re a “Friend” but something could really happen at some point down the road to put you in Column A.

Column C: We’re just “Friends”.

It’s a simple system of classification and it makes things quite easy for me, what with the tons of requests I get every day in SL to hang out with more “Friends”.

If you’re in Column A or Column B, moving between the two can be fairly easy at times. Moving back and forth is entirely possible and based on your reactions and my whims. Sometimes there are several steps to move between those two columns, but suffice it to say that you’re still mobile – unless I marry you or something.

If you land in Column C, however, that’s it: Game over, man. Game over.

We’re just “Friends”. That’s what you really wanted, right? Well, I love to make people happy because, deep down, I’m a really sweet and nice girl. So we’re just “Friends”. If you ask for it, I really will oblige.

(pause)

Usually, at this point, when a guy lands in Column C, he thinks he’s got it made…until he realizes he’s trapped. He didn’t pass Go, he didn’t collect L$200, and he’s staying in jail no matter how many doubles he rolls. At this point, I know if  a guy really wanted to land there on purpose, because he’s a super nice guy and already has somebody he loves in his life, or if he really thinks he totally fucking screwed up and made an incredibly bad mistake.

Most of the Column C guys usually vanish from my life quite quickly, which is somewhat of a relief for me. A few stay and are really awesome, and I know they actually meant it. That’s pretty rare, but it does happen. To those, I curtsy and am glad to have them as Friends. Real friends. You know, people I hang out with and laugh and stuff.

It’s pretty rare, but it does sometimes happen.

There are some things that people should take away with this little introduction: I’m a pretty open girl. I like honesty in intentions. If you really just want to fuck me, say so! But do it well. Think it out before you say something, or you’ll sound like such an idiot to me. Remember, there’s almost nothing I haven’t already heard before. Also, guys, please care for your appearance in SL. Some guys do and look pretty awesome, some look good in a generic sense, but so many look like they walked off of newbie island, straight into a sex area, wearing their freebie cocks and skins and bad hair, and expect me to react in a good way towards them.

When confronted, they call me shallow because I shouldn’t care about appearances.

They think that I should look deep into their souls and find the caring, special person that they are, after IMing me with the garrulous essays of their entire character formed within the words: “u sexy girl make fuck?”

I may be a blonde genius, but that’s far beyond even my capabilities.

If you’re reading this for the first time, and you haven’t IMed me yet, please consider all of this very, very, carefully.

If you’re reading this for the first time because you IMed me something stupid and I’m actually giving you a second chance, please consider all of this even more carefully.

Class dismissed! (for now)

Summer Seale.

The Vatican is Falling Down

This came to me just now…

The Vatican is falling down
Falling down, falling down,
The Vatican is falling down,
There’s no Virgin Mary.

Build it up with myths and tales,
Myths and tales, myths and tales,
Build it up with myths and tales,
There’s no Virgin Mary.

Myths and tales will wash away,
Wash away, wash away,
Myths and tales will wash away,
There’s no Virgin Mary.

All that’s left is pedophile priests,
Pedophile priests, pedophile priests,
All that’s left is pedophile priests,
No Virgin boys or Mary.
