BILLINGSVILLE, N.J. — It was the first time Donald Trump Jr. had spoken publicly since his father issued a lengthy, unapologetic statement about his father’s remarks about the families son and daughter, the first such statement by a president in more than two decades.
But that didn’t stop his father from telling the world about his son’s “tremendous work” in the White House and his “great spirit.”
“Donald Trump is a man who is very proud of his son, and he knows that there is much more work that needs to be done to make sure that his son has the best chance to succeed in life,” the president said in his statement released Sunday night.
“That is why he continues to work hard to make America great again, and I hope the American people will join him in this effort.”
On Sunday, he continued to defend his son and his daughter, who is a first daughter.
“Our son is a great man, he is an outstanding worker and an excellent family man,” he said.
“We love them so much.
We are praying for them. “
As a father, as a husband, as an American, as American citizens, we want to support them as they navigate this transition period.
We are praying for them.
We just want them to know that we’re rooting for them.””
We have so many wonderful people around the country, and we just want to continue to support our people and support our country and continue to put our faith in them,” Trump added.”
I have a tremendous respect for my son, I know he is going to do an amazing job for his country,” Trump said.”
He’s a very smart, great guy and he has a tremendous sense of humor, a great sense of timing, and a great temperament,” he added.
“I know he’s going to be an outstanding president.”
Trump Jr.’s comments, which have been viewed more than 200,000 times on social media since his initial statement was published Sunday, come after his father released a statement on Tuesday that said the Trump family’s business dealings and their “relationships are not in the best interest of our country.”
“President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America is a proud father of five sons and daughters,” the statement read.
“His oldest son Eric was born in New York City, while his oldest daughter Ivanka has been living and working in the United Kingdom, where she has given considerable and valuable advice and counsel to her father and his administration.”
“In addition, our father has been a staunch supporter of Israel, a nation that I strongly believe is doing just fine and deserves to be proud of and to be a shining example for all Americans,” the Trump statement added.
Trump Jr. added that his father had not been involved in his father-daughter’s business in the past, and that his mother, who lives in France, has never held any position at his company.
“My mother is the only one of my three siblings who has never been employed by any Trump Organization entity, let alone in the family,” he told reporters at the White Castle restaurant in New Jersey.
Trump, who was a member of the president’s Cabinet at the time of the 2016 presidential election, said his family was not the focus of his father.
“There are many other people who have been involved with the Trump Organization, so my mother’s not one of them,” he explained.
“And so, I guess I would say that’s not the point.”
In his statement, the president called his eldest son a “genius” and a “professional.”
“My father has an extraordinary ability to keep his father in good stead in the face of the world’s great challenges and challenges,” he wrote.
“He is not a typical politician.
He is not one for the scripted, scripted way of doing things.””
I’m just grateful that he has the temperament and the talent to do this,” he continued.
“To me, he’s an incredible young man.”
The White House also said that Ivanka Trump, who worked with her father at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., before entering politics, would remain in her role as an adviser to the president.
Trump said he did not know what the president would think of the statement and did not share it with him.
“It was a very, very hard decision,” he was quoted as saying by ABC News.
“But he understands that I made the decision to tell him what I thought and he wanted to know what I think.”
He continued: “And it’s a decision that I think he has to make, and there’s no one who’s ever had a chance to make a decision like that.”
The president’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump said she was
