Donald Trump is a staunch supporter of Christianity and has a history of embracing its tenets.
But, the real estate mogul’s father, Fred Trump, has a more secular stance, according to a new report.
Fred Trump is an atheist, and he’s the reason Donald Trump has said he’s “not a Christian,” according to Religion News Service.
His father also is a retired US Marine, according the Associated Press.
In 2013, the elder Trump, along with his wife, Barbara, announced they were having a “reunion” to live together in a “big house” in the same city as their son.
He also said the Trump family would have a “very special wedding” in 2019.
Trump Jr., who is also a Marine, recently said he was “not an atheist.”
“I am not a Christian, and I do not belong to any church.
I am not going to attend any religious service.
I do think there is a big difference between a church and a mosque, but I am a secular person,” he said in a statement.
“I think there should be more freedom for people to choose their own religion, and that includes our president and his family.”
The elder Trump is also the owner of a company called The Family Research Council.
“If they were religious, they wouldn’t have been invited to my church,” Fred Trump told a local radio station in 2015.
The elder Donald Trump also made an appearance at the Values Voter Summit in 2016, where he said that “I do believe in evolution, but evolution doesn’t explain the origin of the human race.”
